Education Support Initiative

What this programme sets out to change

Our Education Support Initiative focuses on expanding access to education for disadvantaged children and youth, particularly those at risk of exclusion due to financial constraints. A cornerstone of this work is the Felix Fumnanya Onyechefule Johnson Ibeanusi Memorial Education Support Scheme, which sponsors WAEC examination registration for indigent students from Oburo Umuokparanyawu, Ogwa.

A cornerstone of this work is the Felix Fumnanya Onyechefule Johnson Ibeanusi Memorial Education Support Scheme (FFJ-ESS), a family-initiated memorial scholarship established by the children and family of the late Mr. Felix Fumnanya Onyechefule Johnson Ibeanusi, and hosted within our Education & Youth Development portfolio. On 8 December 2024, as the family gathered to mark the end of the mourning period, the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (AME Zion), Oburo Ogwa, was also celebrating its 103rd Founders’ Anniversary. What began as a moment of grief became a moment of purpose: a decision to honour a man whose entire life was defined by generosity and belief in others. Although Mr. Ibeanusi never had the privilege of formal schooling himself, he passionately championed education for every child he encountered. His family established this scheme as a living tribute, sponsoring WAEC examination registration fees for indigent students and removing a critical financial barrier to completing secondary education. The scheme was formally launched on 8 December 2025.
